One of the Grand Strand’s most popular attractions, Barefoot Landing is home to more than 40 retail shops, 25-plus restaurants, bars and snack shops, and a range of entertainment venues — all surrounding a 27-acre lake and found right on the Intracoastal Waterway about 6.5 miles north of Breakers Resort. And the long list of reasons to visit this North Myrtle Beach hot spot is always growing.
This year, the complex brought in (among other additions) Lucy Buffett’s LuLu’s — a unique new 20,000-square-foot attraction that rolls a 400-seat restaurant, a live-music venue, a private beach on the Intracoastal Waterway and more into a single family-friendly destination. Owned by the sister of musician (and fellow restaurateur) Jimmy Buffett of “Margaritaville” fame, the local LuLu’s is part of a small Southern chain that already boasts similar restaurants/entertainment venues in the popular coastal destinations of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Destin, Florida.
Representing the first component of a planned waterfront restaurant district at Barefoot Landing known as Dockside Village, the laid-back new LuLu’s offers a seafood-heavy menu featuring such signature creations as LuLu’s Famous Seafood Gumbo; the “Pa-Menna” Cheeseburger topped with pimento cheese, bacon and a fried green tomato; the crowd-pleasing Shrimp & Grits; the top-selling Crab Melt; and a range of “Big Ole Salads.” Lulu’s also caters to guests with food allergies by offering special menus with items that exclude common allergens like eggs, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood and shellfish.
Of course, a long list of frozen drinks (think tropics-friendly concoctions like margaritas, mudslides, daiquiris and bushwhackers), cocktails (with names like the Palmetto Purple Lemonade, the Loopty Lu and the Marina Mama), and house beers and wines is also available.
But the fun at Lulu’s goes far beyond the great food and creative drinks. Guests of all ages will love the on-site arcade, ropes course and private, sandy beach, and Lulu’s Shag Beach Bar is sure to become a go-to spot for fun and entertainment in the area. Live music will also be performed nightly on the stage at LuLu’s, and the summer lineup includes acts like the Nashville-by-way-of-Texas brother duo Alvarado Road Show; Grand Strand veteran singer/guitarist Nick Andolora; Grand Strand-based bassist/guitarist/singer Charles Freeman; Wilmington, NC-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Justin Cody Fox; and North Carolina singer/songwriter Elliot Smith, just to name a few. (This is just a single week’s worth of the artists and bands on tap at LuLu’s — visit the restaurant’s website to see more.)
After filling your tummy and your soul at LuLu’s — and maybe even taking in a few more of Barefoot Landing’s diverse offerings — head back to your comfortable accommodations at Breakers Resort to rest up for another day of adventures on the Grand Strand.
