The Breakers Resort boasts some of the best amenities on the Myrtle Beach oceanfront, but two new and recently upgraded attractions have taken things at the resort to the next level. The new Rusty Reel Bar & Grill opened the summer on the ground floor of the Palmetto Tower, while the expanded Pirates Cove aquatic playground is even more fun than ever before.
Welcoming families to the Myrtle Beach oceanfront for nearly 75 years, The Breakers continues to update its amenities and facilities to provide the best possible vacation destination for its guests. That philosophy is reflected in the new Rusty Reel, which replaces the old Red Parrot Oceanfront Bar & Grill with expanded menus and seating in a more modern environment. The nautical-themed eatery has new wood and tile flooring, white-plank walls with large windows overlooking the beach and pool deck to create a more upscale atmosphere, and six TVs, air conditioning, and a juke box provide plenty of reasons to take a lunch or dinner break.
The menu reflects the biggest changes from the previous occupant. While the Rusty Reel still offers a wide selection of frozen drinks and finger foods, the new menu also offers a nice variety of lunch and dinner options to give guests a place to cool off with a bite for lunch or enjoy a fine-dining experience without leaving the resort. Fuel up with burgers, sandwiches and salads or create your own surf-and-turf combo by ordering a grilled-to-order steak and a seafood platter of shrimp, flounder and oysters.
Popular appetizers include nachos, wings, and Old Bay and Beer peel-and-eat shrimp, which go great with a House, Caesar or Chopped Salad. In addition to outstanding burgers, the Rusty Reel's lineup of sandwiches include the Corned-Beef Reuben and the Bleu Sirloin Melt. Lighter wrap options are the Avocado Chicken, Mushroom & Swiss Melt and Chicken Club. Kids meals offer hot dogs, chicken fingers, pasta, grilled cheese and popcorn shrimp, while the adults have dozens of beer, wine and frozen drinks to choose from. There's even a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic ice creams for dessert. Frozen drinks include Parrot Breeze Punch, Dirty Banana, Bahama Sunset and the house special Voodoo Juice, a mix of fruit juices and rums served in a large souvenir bucket.
Also giving guests the quality vacation experience they have come to expect from The Breakers is the Pirates Cove, a replica pirate ship that “sails” in a giant kiddie pool on the oceanfront deck. Children can splash and play while pretending to play pirate amid a series of pools, fountains and water cannons. Recently outfitted with new gear, Pirates Cove is a popular play place for the little ones with big imaginations. The authentic, scale-model clipper ship is now surrounded by a deck lined with lounge chairs so parents can sit back and relax while keeping an eye on the kids, or join in the fun and bring out your inner child by accompanying them on their adventure.
The Rusty Reel and Pirates Cove are just two of the many first-class amenities for guests of the three-tower property. Indoor and outdoor pools, a 418-foot lazy river, hot tubs and a sauna are among the water attractions, and the pool deck hosts dance parties with a live DJ during the day. Papa’s Restaurant, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and Starbucks Coffeehouse are among the on-site eateries, and the state-of-the-art exercise room gives guests a great place to burn off a few calories. The Breakers Kids Club provides plenty of free activities to keep the little ones entertained, and the Sun Fun Rewards program offers free tickets to local attractions and free unlimited DVD rental.
